ABC is set to axe up to 250 jobs with some major budget cuts on the way.
As ABC reports, Managing Director David Anderson confirmed the news today with a number of changes on the way including the ABC Comedy TV channel being rebranded " to cater for a broader array of programs and content", the public broadcaster's lifestyle website ABC Life to be changed to ABC Local and spending on external and independent TV productions to be cut by $5 million.
Anderson announced the changes today as part of ABC's new five-year plan.
"To be more relevant we need the ABC to be in more communities," Mr Anderson said.
"This is a difficult time for everyone. But the changes we have announced today are necessary to ensure the continuation of the essential services we provide in an increasingly challenging global media market.
"The changes we make today will strengthen our position for the next five years and beyond."
Meanwhile, it is understood that ABC radio stations, triple j, Double J and triple j Unearthed, are not directly impacted by today’s announcements.
