The popular Shinju Matsuri, Broome's Festival of the Pearl, is a celebration of Broome's rich and diverse cultures, pearling history and natural beauty, headed by a community-driven Board of Management, has launched its 2019 program today.
The 2019 Shinju Matsuri runs from Saturday 7 September to Sunday 15 September 2019 and features over 50 events and activities including the Sunset Long Table Dinner on Cable Beach, Make Smoking History Float Parade and the Floating Lantern Matsuri.
Shinju Matsuri President, Chris Maher, said "We are very excited to announce our guest chefs Diana Chan and Brendan Pang and the program for the 2019 Festival. Renowned Blues singer Olive Knight, from the desert community of Wangkatjungka, will headline the Festival Finale concert direct from her international tour with Hugh Jackman. We are also delighted to welcome our new sponsors Plantagenet Wines and Shell.
"We continue the planning for the 50th anniversary of Shinju Matsuri in 2020, a great achievement for a festival that started as a way to bring Broome’s cultures together at the end of the pearl harvest season."
