Man, it's a roller-coaster of a time to be a fan of post-rock — literally a day after UK veterans Maybeshewill announced their intention to split in 2016, Japanese instrumental legends MONO have helped dull the sting of the impending loss by unveiling a run of Australian and New Zealand tour dates at the end of the year.
The long-serving outfit will hit Aussie shores from Friday, 4 December, when they touch down on the west coast to play Perth's Rosemount Hotel, taking in additional showings at Melbourne's Corner Hotel, on 5 December, the Newtown Social Club, in Sydney, on 6 December, and Brisbane's Woolly Mammoth, on 8 December, before they head across the ditch to take on Auckland and the Kings Arms on 10 December.
MONO were last in town back in 2013, when their most recent work was 2012's sixth studio LP For My Parents — but they return with another two new albums in tow, 2014's dual releases The Last Dawn and Rays Of Darkness, considered by many fans to be some of the band's strongest work to date, as well as their personal realisation of their own vision. Along with the likes of Mogwai, Explosions In The Sky, This Will Destroy You and God Is An Astronaut (alongside, to a lesser extent, more math-based prospects such as Toe), MONO have spent the better part of their careers trailblazing their way through the expansive soundscapes of the post-rock oeuvre and cementing themselves as a key act for anyone even a little bit interested in sprawling, sonically hypnotic instrumental-rock goodness.Man, it's a roller-coaster of a time to be a fan of post-rock — literally a day after UK veterans Maybeshewill announced their intention to split in 2016, Japanese instrumental legends MONO have helped dull the sting of the impending loss by unveiling a run of Australian and New Zealand tour dates at the end of the year.
