This October, the passionate and charismatic Billy Bragg, returns to our shores to support the release of Mermaid Ave - The Complete Sessions and mark the centenary of US folk singer Woody Guthrie's birth. His show will feature two sets, the first a tribute to Woody and a second set of Billy Bragg classics with the songs that have made him so famous. These special shows are not to be missed!
In 1992, Woody Guthrie's daughter, Nora, approached Billy with the idea that he put new music to lyrics that her father had written in Brooklyn in the 1940s. Billy invited Wilco to join him on the project and the resulting album Mermaid Avenue came out to great acclaim in 1998. It was included in Rolling Stone's top 100 albums of the 90s and nominated for a Grammy award. The second volume was released in 2000, "...as on the first, it's the Bragg-led numbers that truly catch fire, feeling every bit as warm, funny, and vibrant as Guthrie's best work." - All Music.
