GYPSY AND THE CAT

As 2010 closed Gypsy and the Cat released their debut album ‘Gilgamesh’, which in a short period became one of the most regarded and talked about albums of the year.

It has been followed by a summer of hugely attended festival appearances including national berths on both the Big Day Out and Future Music Festival where the band was a standout for many.

Three songs from the album made the Triple J’s Hottest 100 chart, the equal most for any artist this year. Add to that a tip from the fabled NME end of year poll that rated Gypsy and the Cat in the worlds Top 20 most likely new artist to break in 2011.

With the album already closing in on gold sales, Gypsy and the Cat announce their first national tour in support of their debut album and current single ‘Jona Vark’. It follows sold out headline shows in Sydney and Melbourne previously but this will be the bands first national headline tour.

Critically, these will likely be the only Australian headline dates before Gypsy and the Cat return to the UK and US for the remainder of 2011.

The May tour will follow the bands slot on the prestigious Coachella Festival in the US and a short UK tour. And all of this comes on the eve of their national run as main support to the iconic Kylie Minogue in June. Gypsy and the Car arrived when a demo version of ‘Jona Vark’ was Unearthed by Triple J last year.

The current single version of ‘Jona Vark’ was produced by the band and mixed in the UK by Chenzo Townshend, most regarded for his work on the Florence and the Machine album.

The ‘Jona Vark’ single package comes complete with remixes from UK hit maker Starsmith, French electro master Alan Braxe and local sizzle courtesy of Shazam and Van She Tech. Tickets for the Gypsy and the Cat ‘Jona Vark Tour’ are on sale now.

Special guests to be announced.
