Good Vibrations Festival 2009!
21st February
Parklands Showgrounds
GOLD COAST

We gave you clues to some of the line up a few weeks back, but now we can officially announce our awesome 2009 Good Vibrations Festival line up! Awwww yeah!

After over 2 decades, numerous albums, truckloads of awards and countless incarnations, our headliner FATBOY SLIM (aka Norman Cook) has established himself as one of the world’s most popular DJs and producers. His second LP, You've Come a Long Way, Baby went triple platinum in Australia and spawned two international hits, The Rockafeller Skank and Praise You.  2000’s Halfway Between the Gutter and the Stars also hit the top of the international charts and featured the smash Weapon of Choice (who can forget the video featuring Christopher Walken and directed by Spike Jonze?!). He hasn’t been on an Australian national music festival for a quite a few years and you can bet he will step up his performance to close out the Festival in true Fatboy Slim style!

THE PRESETS have undoubtedly made Australia sit up and take notice this year. Their sophomore album Apocalypso has already sold platinum and gone to the number 1 spot on the ARIA charts, picking up four 2008 ARIA nominations along the way. Lead by the anthemic crowd uniting, platinum selling single  ‘My People, Apocalypso has spent over sixteen weeks in the Australian Top 10 and is the biggest Australian album of 2008!.  Add this to single sales and subsequent album releases in over 25 countries, it’s undeniable that The Presets have emerged this year as serious heavyweight contenders, an unstoppable force on the international dance music scene…and we are proud they have chosen to be a part of Good Vibrations Festival 2009!

Headlining the Roots Stage is well…THE ROOTS! This established act has built up a cult underground following with years of credible live performances and albums. Never bowing to commercial pressure they have stayed true to their ideals. The Roots' live shows are undoubtedly among the best hip hop shows in the business. The Philadelphia group showed the way for live rap, building on Stetsasonic's "hip-hop band" philosophy of the mid-'80s by focusing on live instrumentation at their concerts and in the studio. In 2003, The Roots were voted one of the "Twenty Greatest Live Acts in the World" by Rolling Stone readers. This will be a performance you don’t want to miss.

Joining this prestigious line up is wonder mouse, DEADMAU5! Deadmau5 is an Award-winning producer/electronic artist who flirts with techno and minimal beats, while hinting at tech house, trance and electro.  Phew! Set to change the face of live electronic performances as we know it, complete with his signature Mau5head with its powerful strobe lighting eyes, this mind-blowing piece of costume is worn to maximum effect during his live shows; yet another addition to the ever-increasing aura that surrounds this unique young artist.

We were so excited about SAM SPARRO we announced him already! After treating audiences in Melbourne and Sydney earlier this year to an appetiser of what’s in store for his full live show, we know he’ll have the crowd dancing as soon as he steps out on stage! Sam will be returning to Australia later this month to appear on the 2008 ARIA AWARDS where he’s up for no less than five pointy trophies!

RONI SIZE started on the path of musical production when he was thrown out of school aged 16. Set to perform on the Roots Stage, RONI SIZE REPRAZENT is the jaw-dropping amazing full live band incarnation of Roni’s outfit that put live drum and bass on the map with their New Forms LP in 1997. Winning the Mercury Music Prize boosted their international status and the world awoke to the sound of Roni Size.

CHROMEO is party. CHROMEO is Moog riffs, luxurious harmonies, macho guitar solos, electric funk and real-deal songcraft! Best friends since their adolescence, virtuoso musicians and walking hip hop encyclopaedias; Chromeo is the combination of Pee Thug and Dave 1 and these guys certainly know how to ROCK a show! Don’t miss these guys tearing up the Good Vibrations stage.

True pioneers of a sound that broke all the rules back in 1998; STANTON WARRIORS took garage and twisted it beyond all recognition, dropping speaker shattering bass lines and massive beats, all to devastating effect. 2001 saw the release of Stanton Sessions featuring remixes of songs by Basement Jaxx and The Streets.  The album recently featured in Mixmag’s ‘Top 25 best compilations ever’ poll and went on to become one of the biggest selling breaks albums, continually reminding the world why Stanton Warriors have remained unrivalled in their genre for more than a decade.

THE POTBELLEEZ are another hugely in-demand Aussie dance act and a hot ticket on the festival circuit. Not to mention they had one of the biggest dance singles of last summer with Don’t Hold Back and a crowd teasing DJ set at the Sydney leg of this year’s Good Vibrations Festival 08! The Potbelleez have proven themselves as a crowd favourite who are sure to bring it to national audiences in 2009!

It’s been a decade now since KID KENOBI (aka Jesse Desenberg) began DJ-ing under this moniker. A quick look at his rap sheet shows he was voted Number 1 DJ in the Technics InTheMix Top 50 three years in a row; he’s chalked up so many mix CDs for Ministry of Sound Australia they made a special sessions series for him; he’s even got a Dance Music Award under his belt for his remix of Green Velvet’s La La Land. He will be hitting the decks with MC SHURESHOCK (aka Cameron James Brown). Eight years on with countless worldwide gigs, festivals and compilations under his belt, Shureshock’s got the rep and the presence that commands crowds to hang on his every word. It’s a marriage of Kenobi’s world-recognised prowess on the decks and Shureshock’s unmistakable delivery and solid command over the mic.

As one of the most charismatic individuals to smash his way onto the house music scene in recent years, MICKY SLIM is the Birmingham-bred bad boy who has arrived and is ready to take over. 2007 was definitely a massive year for Micky, being snapped up by top London DJ agency IMD as well as securing an eight gig residency at the infamous Judgment Sundays in Ibiza.

Quirky French artist YELLE started out when she thought it was time to give Cuizinier, member of the provocative Hip-Hop band TTC, some change for his money. The minute this humorous track got put on her MySpace page, people rushed to hear it. Yelle’s golden voice is in the house! After being hailed as one of the best acts at Japan’s Summersonic this year, this brunette with attitude promises a hot summer with her debut album Pop Up, which echoes a certain nostalgia for the golden years of French electro-pop but all boosted with her own flavoured groove and subtle vibe into some booty-pop, revealing the story of a shameless girl with a strong character.

Exciting new hip-hop artist WALE is breathing new life into the genre through dazzling wordplay, a fresh sound steeped in DC's legendary go-go scene and boundless on-stage energy. Wale recently took the European music festival circuit by storm, touring with super producer Mark Ronson last year. The response was so great, Wale ended up signing a production deal with Ronson's Allido Records. On the back of his blogtastic Seinfeld inspired ‘Mixtape About Nothing’; this kid is definitely one not to miss.

THE CUBAN BROTHERS are just too much fun not to have back! Consisting of Miguel Mantovani aka Mike Keat: The Cuban Impresario, his brother Clemente Rodriguez aka Russ H, their protégé (and Miguel’s nephew) Archerio Mantovani aka Archie Easton plus Mantovani’s Japanese love child Kengo San aka Kengo Oshima, it would be fare to say The Cuban Brothers are unique and will definitely spice up our party cocktail stage with their legendary performances combining music, riotous comedy (both physical and observational) plus sensational breakdancing!

RICO TUBBS has been the broken beats pioneer in Finland since 1994. Voted for the best electronic music DJ in Finland 2006 and again 2007, this Finish lion of everything funk is here and he ain’t going anywhere till you bow at his overly skin tight jeans and kiss his ethically sound sneakers! Just releasing his brand new album on Menu Music, Knuckle Sandwich is packed to the brim with full on monster mashouts.

San Francisco’s MIKE RELM is known for live performances; he defies any preconceived notions of what a solo DJ can achieve musically and visually - the dexterity of the turntablist, the 6th sense of the party rocker and the music palette of the obsessed record collector. Genres of music mean absolutely nothing to this champion turntablist.  Make sure you don’t miss him at Good Vibrations Festival 2009.

Good Vibrations Festival 09’s master of ceremonies is none other than SUPERNATURAL. In 2006 Supernatural blew audiences away with his amazing freestyle performances on the Roots Stage with Z-Trip, so we have brought him back again to get everyone vibed! After all he is known as the Worlds greatest Freestyler!

OK now ... take a breath, settle down and get ready to buy your ticket! Last year Good Vibrations Festival played host to over 90,000 people. We strongly suggest you get in quick with tickets as they will be out the door faster than you can say ‘Holy shite, Fatboy Slim is headlining!‘
