Afterpay is now accepted at checkout on Oztix

Afterpay is now on Oztix

Your customers can now split their ticket purchase into four interest-free instalments, and still get their tickets the moment they’re approved. More ways to pay, fewer people bouncing at checkout, and a payment option you control event by event.

The short version

Afterpay now shows up as a payment option at checkout for opted-in Oztix events. Customers pay the same total they’d pay on a card. There’s no surcharge for them. In exchange for offering this payment method, you cover a 3.5% fee on Afterpay orders only, deducted from your settlement. You decide which of your events offer it, and you can turn it on or off at any time.

That’s the whole trade-off: a small, transparent cost on the orders that actually use Afterpay, for the upside of catching the buyers who would otherwise drop off, and the ones who’ll spring for the VIP ticket because they can spread the cost. And because the 3.5% only ever lands on Afterpay orders, switching it off doesn’t lower the cost of your other sales. It simply takes the option away.

Why offer it

Fewer abandoned carts

Price is the number-one reason a keen fan stalls at checkout. Splitting a $200 ticket or a bulk purchase of tickets for the friend group into four payments turns “maybe next payday” into “yes, now”.

Bigger orders

When the upfront hit is smaller, buyers trade up: the General Admission to VIP nudge, the extra ticket for a mate, the add-on digital downloads. Buy Now Pay Later (BNPL) is well established for shifting buyers toward higher-value tickets.

New and younger audiences

Afterpay is one of the most-used and trusted Pay-in-4 services in Australia, and it skews Gen Z and Millennial. Younger audiences want new experiences but have less share of wallet to splurge on a gig or festival. BNPL makes this more achievable. Afterpay platform data shows around 1 in 3 Afterpay shoppers are new to the brand they’re buying from, so it’s a genuine reach play, not just a payment tweak.

It’s what buyers now expect

BNPL sits alongside card and PayPal as a standard checkout option across the ticketing world. Offering it keeps your events on par with the platforms your fans already buy from.

What’s new in Studio

Alongside Afterpay appearing at checkout, here’s what’s changed in your Studio experience:

  • Afterpay at checkout: shows as a payment option on enabled events, for orders between $1 and $4,000.
  • Payments settings: a new toggle to switch Afterpay on or off, per event (event administrators).
  • Approval pop-up: when you publish a new event, a quick step to confirm you’re happy for Afterpay to be enabled.
  • Afterpay fee summary: a clear view of exactly what’s been deducted in fees.
  • GST tax invoice: downloadable from Studio, with the GST breakdown on your Afterpay fees.

What it costs you

Afterpay costs your customers nothing extra. They pay the same total they would on a card, with no surcharge. You cover a flat 3.5% (GST-inclusive) on Afterpay orders only, taken from your settlement. The fee is always covered by you and can’t be passed on to the ticket buyer. Your card sales are never touched.

Worked example (illustrative)
Line itemAmount
Order total: what the customer pays (same as card)$168.60
Afterpay fee (3.5%, GST inclusive)$5.90

The 3.5% applies to the full order total: tickets plus all fees and any optional extras a customer chooses as part of their order (delivery, refund protection, add-ons, etc).

Good to know: at 3.5%, this is lower than Afterpay’s standard merchant rate, a deal we’ve negotiated for Oztix events. And you’re only ever charged on orders that actually use Afterpay, so it only costs you when it’s helping close a sale.

You’re in control, event by event

Afterpay can be switched on or off only by an event’s administrators, and only for that event, so the call always sits with the people running the show.

  • New events: Afterpay is on by default. Nothing to do to enable it.
  • Existing events: Afterpay is off by default, and you can opt in at any time from 25 June 2026. To switch it on, open the event in Payments settings in Studio and toggle Afterpay on.
  • Turning it off: Flip the Afterpay toggle in the new Payments setting in Studio for any individual event, new or existing. Switch it off and Afterpay won’t show at that event’s checkout, and no Afterpay fees are deducted for it.
  • Confirming it on a new event: Your approval page now includes a quick pop-up to confirm you’re happy for Afterpay to be enabled, so there are no surprises. To publish your event, you have to click the checkbox!

Seeing what you’ve paid

Studio shows an Afterpay fee summary so you can see exactly what’s been deducted, and you’ll receive a tax invoice with the GST breakdown on your Afterpay fees, downloadable from Studio. Nothing hidden, all reconcilable.

How it works for your customers

  1. They reach the checkout for an eligible event and see Afterpay alongside card and Apple Pay or Google Pay (it appears only when the order sits between $1 and $4,000, no BNPL for free events!).
  2. They choose Afterpay: same total as paying by card, no surcharge.
  3. They’re directed to Afterpay to log in or sign up and approve the four-instalment schedule.
  4. On approval they’re back on Oztix, the order completes, and they get their tickets and confirmation straight away, just like any other order.

Afterpay then collects four interest-free instalments from the customer over six weeks. You’re paid the ticket amount minus the 3.5% fee for tickets purchased via Afterpay out of your Oztix settlement.

FAQs

Does this cost my customers anything extra?

No. Customers pay the same total whether they choose card or Afterpay. There’s no customer surcharge. The 3.5% is your cost, not theirs.

What exactly is the 3.5% charged on?

The full order total of each Afterpay order: ticket price plus all fees and any delivery/xCover. It’s GST-inclusive and only applies to orders actually paid with Afterpay.

So it reduces my settlement?

Yes, on Afterpay orders. 3.5% of each Afterpay order’s total comes out of your settlement. It only ever applies to orders paid with Afterpay, and you can opt out per event. The trade-off is the additional and higher-value sales Afterpay can drive.

How do I turn it off?

Use the Afterpay toggle in Payments settings in Studio. Event administrators only. You can switch it off for any individual event, new or existing, and no Afterpay fees are deducted for an opted-out event. Worth knowing: because the fee only applies to Afterpay orders, turning it off does not change or reduce any other fees. It simply means Afterpay is not available for customers to use for that event.

Is it on for all my events automatically?

Only new events default to Afterpay being on from 25 June 2026. Events on sale prior to 25 June 2026 don’t have Afterpay automatically enabled unless you opt them in. Either way, you can opt out per event at any time.

Who can turn Afterpay on or off?

Only an event’s administrators, and only for that event. It’s controlled per event in Payments settings in Studio.

My event has a venue and a promoter, who decides?

The decider is the person who approves and sets the event live. Have a chat with your team and see which events would benefit from an Afterpay payment option.

As a venue, what does Afterpay mean for settlement with promoters, agents and bands?

Firstly, ensure that whoever settlement is payable to understands there will be a deduction for Afterpay sales, and that they’re ok with this.
Secondly, add this to your venue hire documents and agreements so it’s clear there’s a cost here, just like venue hire or other charges they pay.
The 3.5% Afterpay fee isn’t charged to your customers. It’s deducted from the event’s settlement before funds are distributed. That means it’s paid by whoever receives settlement, unless you as the venue elect to absorb it.
Because the person who enables Afterpay (often you, the venue) isn’t always the person who carries the cost, get agreement from your settlement partners before you switch it on.
A deduction on their statement shouldn’t be the first they hear of it.
Not sure everyone’s across it yet? Leave Afterpay off for that event. You can switch it on any time from Payments settings in Studio once you’re aligned.

What if a customer’s Afterpay payment is declined?

Afterpay handles approval. If it’s declined the order simply doesn’t complete, and the customer can try again or pay by card instead.

What happens to the fee if I refund an order?

The original 3.5% fee isn’t reversed. You’ll still have been charged it on the original purchase.

How do I find an Afterpay order for my event?

Search Oztix Orders by the customer’s billing email or the order ID. Afterpay reference IDs are also shown on the Orders page.
