Tones & I Just Broke Another Record & This Time It Was Whitney Houston's

Just when you thought Tones & I had broken all of the ARIA chart records with Dance Monkey, the Byron Bay-based artist goes ahead and does it all over again. 

After taking out top spot for the 11th-straight week on the Singles list this past weekend, Tones & I now holds the record for most weeks at #1 on the chart by a female solo act. 

The record was previously jointly-held by Whitney Houston's I Will Always Love You (1992/1993) and Sandi Thom's I Wish I Was A Punk Rocker (With Flowers In My Hair (2010), both at 10 weeks. 

It comes only a week after the Melbourne songwriter broke the record for most weeks ever at #1 for an Australian artist, while Dance Monkey has also held onto the #1 spot in the UK for a second week.

Meanwhile, last week Tones & I swept the 2019 ARIA Award nominations, racking up the most nods with eight including Best Female Artist and Breakthrough Artist.

Dance Monkey has also peaked at #1 in Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, New Zealand, Norway, Sweden and Switzerland since its release. 

Speaking to The Music this month, Tones & I said she never expected the song to dominate the local and global markets like it has. 

 "I honestly thought that when it reached ten on the ARIA Chart it would decline," she said.

"I never thought this would happen!"
