Iconic Sydney recording studio Damien Gerard Studios is relocating from the city to the Central Coast.

Originally established in Ultimo in the ‘80s, the studio hosted the likes of Hoodoo Gurus, The Church, Died Pretty and more before shifting to Balmain, where its stayed for the past 18 years and been visited by the likes of Sunscreen, Evan Dando and Ken Stringfellow (REM, The Posies), just to name a few.

Back in June, the Balmain building underwent changes, which saw the need for the studio to relocate one-hour north of Sydney to West Gosford.

Owner Marshall Cullen said the shift had been “coming for a while”.

“I’ve been living on the central coast for nearly 15 years now. The increasing development, high-density housing pressure and high traffic volume in Sydney has accelerated in recent times.

“It really did feel like we needed to take the studio to the next level and in a more suitable and relaxed location. Following a recommendation, I met with Jason [Stenning] and inspected the West Gosford site and it was the obvious way to go. I finally get to realise my dream studio."

The new setup will include “everyone’s favourite couch”, additional vintage equipment and more, with bookings now open.
