Much-loved presenter Stephen ‘The Ghost’ Walker has passed away yesterday following a short battle with cancer.

Walker was best known for this 37 years of presenting at Melbourne community radio station Triple R, where he also served for 14 years as Program Manager.

His revered program Skull Cave aired on Friday afternoons and was handed over to Woody McDonald in August last year

Walker's influence in the Melbourne music scene was immense, with Skull Cave fans hanging off his word for what acts to see and what music to buy. He drew regular comparisons to John Peel for his ability to break artists and shape careers.

Walker was the first radio presenter to inducted into The Age Music Victoria Awards Hall of Fame back in 2011.

In 2010, acts including Nick Cave, The Dirty Three, Ron S Peno and more performed in Walker's honour at the Forum Theatre to celebrate his 30 years with Triple R and raise funds to support his medical treatment for MS.

"Beyond his many contributions on air, we’ll miss Stephen’s wise words, his cheeky ability to shock, his heart-felt support for and interest in all things Triple R, his incredible vision and deeply philosophical nature," shared Triple R in a statement today.

"We celebrate Stephen’s contribution to Triple R, Melbourne underground culture, music and community broadcasting.

"It’s time for us to plant you now, dig you later – and whatever you do, make sure you take it and trust the energy, ’cause the energy says you’ll be deeply missed and forever remembered."
