Just months after celebrating its 30th anniversary, Australian favourite Bluesfest has this week been announced as the top grossing live event on Pollstar's International Live Box Office charts.

The 2019 festival, which saw performances from Hozier, Ben Harper, Norah Jones and Iggy Pop, raked in over $11 million, beating out other live events from the likes of Metallica and Ed Sheeran.

“It’s not every day you wake up to find Bluesfest is on top of the international live music magazine, Pollstar’s International Box Office, holding the number one spot as the highest grossing event in the world," Bluesfest director, Peter Noble OAM, said.

"Pinch me! I must still be dreaming! The thrill is electric to see an Aussie independent festival featuring primarily blues and roots music come out on top!

"We love contemporary music too at Bluesfest, but the industry isn’t just about that. For us, an artist is an artist, throughout their entire career and it is an honour to present the legends as well as the emerging artists. Bluesfest is the most highly awarded music festival ever in Australia."

The Byron Bay spectacle is already gearing up for its 2020 edition, which will take place from 9-13 April.
