The prestigious UK Christmas #1 has been taken out by a YouTube star's cover of Starship's iconic track, We Built This City

The title was widely expected to go to Ariana Grande's Thank U, Next, however 31-year-old LadBaby has shocked the world with his ode to sausage rolls.

As OfficialCharts.com reports, all proceeds raised by the single, which has racked up over 1.5 million views on YouTube since being released last week, will go towards the The Trussell Trust foodbank charity.

We Built This City is the first novelty song to claim the UK Christmas #1 since the famous Bob The Builder single, Can We Fix It?, back in 2000.

“Thank you everybody in the UK who has got a sausage roll to the top," LadBaby told Official Charts.

"I can’t thank you enough not only for downloading the song but for raising money for such an incredible charity. I’m honestly speechless and lost for words. Thank you so much. YES MAAATE!”

Other tracks to have taken out the UK Christmas #1 in past years include Ed Sheeran's Perfect (2017), Rage Against The Machine's Killing In The Name (2009) and Michael Jackson's Earth Song (1995), while the Spice Girls won it three years straight from 1996-1998 with 2 Becomes 1, Too Much and Goodbye respectively.
