Following her departure from triple j this month, former news presenter Brooke Boney is heading to breakfast television.

According to Sydney Morning Herald, Boney will join Nine Network's Today show as the new entertainment correspondent, where she will work closely with current Entertainment Editor, Richard Wilkins.

It's reported that while Wilkins will continue with Nine as the entertainment editor, he will have a more prominent role with Today Extra alongside hosts David Campbell and Sonia Kruger.

Boney, who has worked at the youth broadcaster as the resident breakfast news presenter for the past two years, will become one of few young Indigenous women to appear on commercial television in Australia.

“I’m really thrilled to be joining the team and so excited to be working alongside Richard Wilkins. He’s such a legend in the business," Boney said.

"It’s such an exciting time to be joining Nine and am looking forward to learn from everyone on the Today team.

"As a young girl growing up in the country I watched Today so it’s really awesome to know it’ll be my new home.”

The news comes after a tough week for both Nine and the breakfast program, which announced it was parting ways with long-time anchor Karl Stefanovic.
