Artists often acknowledge roadies on stage, and while the show can’t happen without them, live production crews are largely unseen and thus go unnoticed in a lot of ways.
The inaugural Roady4Roadies this March will celebrate their efforts while shining a light on alarming mental health problems within the entertainment industry.
Open to the public, walks will take place Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth on March 10 and in Adelaide on March 24, with all profits going to Support Act.
In each city, the day will kick off with a leisurely 4 - 5km walk, ending with family activities and performances. Those who participate will receive a free t-shirt and crew laminate and have access to sunscreen and bottled water available along the route.
Once the Roady4Roadies Walk is done, attendees can take part in the Crewathlon, a friendly competition for teams of roadie that will feature The Cable Comp, Stage Manager Sprint, Lighting Crew Limbo and Sound Crew Shimmy.
Roady4Roadies has been organised to “bring public awareness to the diverse range of highly technical and creative skills required to make our dreams to come true, and raise desperately needed funds to help those in crisis”.
Some of the country's “leading artists” will round out the day, with each city’s line-up expected to drop in the lead up to March.
