Few things are as powerful as music, with certain lyrics, melodies and chords able to convey messages words sometimes can’t.
Australian grassroots charity Musicians Making A Difference’s goal is to change young lives for the better through music and mentoring, and today, local and international artists join forces to push that message as the organisation releases a new single.
10 young people from MMAD teamed up to create Reach Out, a song “to inspire others to reach out when they need assistance breaking out of a negative cycle”.
The new cut was produced at Forbes Street Studios in Sydney, with its accompanying video documenting the process.
MMAD are also encouraging people to tag a musician or share a song that’s helped them in one way or another, using the hashtag #MusiciansMakingADifference.
To get the ball rolling, they enlisted some serious talent to share what music means to them in the lead up to today, with Troye Sivan, Vera Blue, Thundamentals, Gary Lightbody (Snow Patrol) and more giving insight into how music has helped them in the past.
“Imagine a world and our own lives - our formative years, our trying times and our happiest moments - without music,” MMAD co-founder Dominic Brook said.
“This day is all about celebrating the power of music in making a difference in the world and acknowledging the artists who’s music has impacted our own lives.
“At MMAD, we witness the power of music every day. But on MMAD Day we encourage everyone to celebrate its power, and those songs and artists that helped shape who we are today.”
