A feature film inspired by the music of Prince is officially in the works.
According to Variety, Universal Pictures has acquired the rights to some of the late music legend's songs with plans to produce an original film musical.
It's believed that the film would not be a biopic, but rather a fictional film that simply features Prince's music.
Variety reports that Prince's estate has been enquiring with various film studios about the proposed project, which would be done in a similar style to the box office hit Mamma Mia! films, which use ABBA's music through an original plotline.
It follows the 1984-released film, Purple Rain, which featured Prince in his acting debut and included music from the Grammy Award-winning album.
The movie also won the Oscar for Best Original Song Score at the Academy Awards that year.
