Gary Haisman, one of the most influential names for acid house music has passed away at the age of 60.
As reported by Heavy, the news was confirmed by fellow UK act, DJ Gary Crowley. A cause of death is yet to be confirmed.
A former club promoter, Haisman was best known for featuring on the iconic dance track, We Call It Acieed, released in 1988. The song, by house producer D Mob (also known as Danny D) cracked top spot on the US Dance Music chart and peaked at #3 on the UK Singles chart.
In the same year of release, We Call It Acieed was removed from BBC's playlists due to allegations that the song advocated drug use, to which Haisman and Danny D denied.
His vocals in the hit single became a catch cry of the first rave generation as the song's refrain was called out on dancefloors globally.
A number of big names in the dance scene and wider music community have paid tribute to Haisman, including Pete Wylie and Danny Rampling.
Danny D said of Haisman's passing "I'm absolutely gutted to hear of the passing of a true pioneer of pioneers.
"Fashion, music and fun is how I'll remember him best..."
