QMusic's Joel Edmondson has stepped down as CEO, today announcing a new role within the Queensland music industry.
The driving force behind QMusic and BIGSOUND over the past four years, Edmondson has been appointed Queensland Music Festival’s Executive Director.
“Joel has been outstanding for QMusic,” QMusic shared via Facebook.
“These last four years have been significant for our organisation. We’ve had an unprecedented period of growth and engagement with industry members across Queensland and beyond.
“Joel has been integral to that growth through his energy, vision and love for the industry.”
Edmondson will take over from Nigel Lavender who will step down from QMF this month after 10 years with the festival.
“There’s an opportunity to demonstrate a multitude of ways music can make a change in society, the community and at an individual level,” Edmondson said.
“It’s really important that we bridge the gap between industry and community arts, I want the program at QMF to be something the public is really excited about and therefore has commercial value.
“Enabling people in their local communities to self-organise and create things people would want to travel and see, particularly in terms of telling local stories, would celebrate the richness of Queensland history and help people understand its identity as a state. Cultural tourism is, in many ways, the future of the economy in Queensland.
“It’s about creating a sense of authenticity that reflects the community.”
Edmondson also said he will spend as much time as possible collaborating with Artistic Director Katie Noonan during his first six months with QMF.
“I look forward to working with Joel in presenting our big, bold and beautiful 2019 Queensland Music Festival program and in celebrating and supporting our unique Queensland identity through music,” Noonan said.
Queensland Music Festival will celebrate 20 years in 2019.
QMusic is currently looking for a new Chief Executive Officer, with applications open until December 24.
