Triple J has today made the shock announcement that long-running host and presenter KLP and breakfast news presenter Brooke Boney will depart the youth broadcaster at the end of 2018.

After five years of working at the station, House Party host KLP has confirmed she will be stepping away from radio to focus on her music career.

"Five years flies when you’re having a ball partying with Australia every Saturday night," KLP said in a statement.

"I grew up listening to triple j and never in my wildest dreams did I imagine that I would one day be the host of a show that is full of so much music and good energy. While I love being on the radio, writing and performing music of my own has always been my number one love, and I’ve decided to step back so I have more time to focus on that.

"I’ve been working away on some exciting releases that I can’t wait to share with you in 2019!”

A new House Party presenter is expected to be announced in early 2019.

Meanwhile, Boney will leave triple j to work on "some new stuff across other parts of the ABC".

"I have always been a triple j listener and (like many of you) feel like it formed a big part of who I am today, so it’s been a real honour," Boney said.

Triple J newsreader and Hack reporter, Alice Matthews will take over Boney's role in 2019.

Over on Double J in 2019, Stu Buchanan's Fat Planet will be heard as a segment on Tim Shiel's Double J Arvos.
