Aussie hip hop legends Hilltop Hoods “throwback to a classic HTH sound” with their new single, driven heavily by a recreated guitar sample and big up-tempo drums.

The trio today unveiled Leave Me Lonely, the second single from their next LP, teasing details of their next album while surprising fans with music doco Restrung Live, which documents their special 2016 arena tour.

Speaking with The Music about their new single, MC Pressure said they wanted to create something with a bit more hype and aggression with Leave Me Lonely.

“It's quite simply about people getting up in your face and chewing your ear off after they have had one too many,” he explained.

“Sometimes you’re so desperate to escape that drunk pest you’d throw yourself out of a window if it meant you didn’t have to suffer one more slurred, hot beer-breathed word. That’s what’s happening here.”

Leave Me Lonely is taken from The Great Expanse, set for release on February 22, and is the “fastest song on the record”.

“Having said that, there are a few other party banger style songs that it fits in nicely with,” Pressure added.

“The album as a whole, however, varies from dark and moody to fun and upbeat throughout.”

And if February is too far away for you, Restrung Live should help pass the time.

“It’s the live concert filmed at Rod Laver Arena with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra we did in 2016,” he said.

“Dispersed amongst the live songs there is plenty of footage of the making of Drinking From the Sun, Walking Under Stars Restrung along with how we went about putting on the show.”

It also features interviews, band history and more and is currently available via the Hilltop Hoods website.
