Summer is looking to be a big one for Melbourne music lovers, with iconic venue The Espy set to reopen this Friday.

More details around the relaunch have today been unveiled, including more acts set to grace its stages in the coming months.

Last week, The Teskey Brothers were confirmed to perform the unofficial christening this Thursday night, with the venue looking to return to its former glory as “the home of live music in St Kilda”, hosting live music across three different stages.

The Main Bar will host local and touring soloists, two and three-piece bands and late night DJs, while emerging and local artists play the Basement Stage and ticketed gigs take over the Gershwin Room.

PP Arnold, Tex Perkins, Dan Sultan, The Chats and more have also been confirmed as part of the Gershwin Room’s programming, with the team running the venue announcing the space will host film screenings, including acclaimed local production Her Sound, Her Story.

“The Espy is an iconic venue for Australia’s musical landscape,” venue program manager Shaun Adams said.

“The stories that this venue could tell from the legendary performances alone are enough, everyone from Beasts Of Bourbon to King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard!

“Now is the chance to welcome back those acts that hold amazing history with the venue but also find the next crop of artists that will come to dominate the touring circuit.”

New Artistic Director Janenne Willis will oversee a seasonal cultural programme, while The Gerswhin Room also hosts dance classes and more.

“In grande tradition of the Espy, our arts program will be vibrant and diverse, much bigger than any one headline artist or show,” Willis said.

“Live and experiential at heart, we want to use art as a tool to elevate the important conversations of our times, all in the welcoming context of a non-traditional arts space."

Speaking about the reopening earlier this year, RocKwiz creator and The Espy’s Entertainment Manager Peter Bain-Hogg said they want the venue to be a "destination for music-lovers from Melbourne, Australia, and all over the world” and a “trusted venue where they will be able to hear leading local and international artists, and see up and coming artists cut their teeth”.
