After years of busking Melbourne's streets and garnering a huge fan base across Australia, Pierce Brothers have today finally delivered their long-awaited debut album, Atlas Shoulders.
The LP follows 12 months of touring and writing, as well as supporting fellow Melbourne act Tash Sultana around the world.
The duo will kick off a tour of Australia early next month.
"The album was written over the course of a year, starting with demos in Denver, while we were still on tour with Tash last year," Pierce Brothers told The Music.
"We got together with Garret Kato who started putting together some really cool tunes that were the finishing touches on the record.
"We brought them back to Melbourne and honed them with John Castle and finally achieved that energy we felt has been missing in prior releases. We’re stoked Garrett is coming on the road with us as well!"
The twin brothers say Atlas Shoulders is something they've been working on for years.
"After releasing so many EPs we never thought we’d actually make it to a full length.
"It’s a step up in our melodies and lyrics I think. Where we used to sit on one note, we’ve branched out into various different themes and tried to flow them from one to the next within the story of the album.
Coming into summer we also wanted to have a cool vibe overall; that’s where we got songs like Back End Roads and Trip Lovers, but there’s another side of the record which deals with the darker side of mental health which is where the title Atlas Shoulders came from."
