WA's annual WAMCon is set to take over the State Theatre Centre of WA from November 2 - 3, featuring a massive speaker line-up ready to dish up a smorgasbord of valuable information to emerging artists and more across keynote presentations, panels, masterclasses, workshops and networking events.

With an increasing focus on the digital realm and more artists looking to break out of Australia, Sounds Australia's Dom Alessio shared five digital export tips with us prior to his WAMCon appearance.

Here's just a small taste of what you can expect next week.

DO A DIGITAL AUDIT

Do a digital audit of all your accounts before your next release or tour. Is there a consistent look and feel across all your socials? Are all the links working on your website? Contact details up to date on Facebook?

CHECK YOUR DATA

Don't just rely on one source of data to tell you who and where your audience is. Make sure you're looking at your stats on streaming services and socials, as well as websites like Chartmetric and Soundcharts, to help you draw a more complete picture of who's listening to your music. This will help when you start to plan a touring route.

ARE YOU ON ALL THE SERVICES?

Pandora, QQ Music, JOOX, Deezer, Anghami… these are just some of the popular streaming services outside of Australia. Is your music on them? Not everyone is on Apple and Spotify, so make sure your music is being distributed to all the services you need to be on.

BUILD THAT ENGAGEMENT

Algorithms on services like YouTube and Spotify react positively when you're cultivating an engaged fan base. They want to see users returning to your pages. So make sure you're creating content even when you're not touring or releasing music. It could be making playlists on streaming services, or behind-the-scenes and live videos on your socials.

GET READY FOR VOICE

Sales of smart speakers tripled between 2016 and 2017, and music listening is their most popular use. Talk to your digital distributor and see if you can get lyrics submitted with your songs when they’re being serviced to streaming platforms. Get your lyrics onto Genius too, because they supply lyrics to Apple Music.
