Details of the 2019 Sydney Women’s March have been announced, with the third annual event happening on January 20.

Women will march across Sydney and other cities around the world to “stand in power, strength and unity for the equality of women everywhere”.

The event will shine a spotlight on the global epidemic of femicide and violence against women while calling on the Australian government to address gender-based violence with immediate and definitive action.

“Violence against women is a global epidemic. The statistics in Australia are staggering as we have just recorded the 65th woman lost to murder or manslaughter in 2018,” Women’s March Sydney organiser Dr Mindy Freiband said.

"Gender-based violence is one of the most prevalent and devastating manifestations of sexual harassment and power abuse across the globe. It touches all of us.

"It's time we stand together to demand real change. It is time to demand commitment from our leaders to tackle what can only be described as a national emergency."

Sydney joins London, Stockholm, Rome, Barcelona and Canada who have also confirmed participation in the event, with other capital cities around Australia expecting to announce similar events soon.

Last year, Amanda Palmer, Bek Jensen, Alphamama and Candy Royalle performed at Sydney Women’s March with next year’s performers expected to be announced soon.

Organisers are urging those interested in getting involved to register via their website.
