Japanese pop-metallers BABYMETAL have confirmed that Yuimetal has stepped down as a member of the band.

The news comes only days before their world tour is scheduled to commence, with shows planned across Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane in December as part of Good Things Festival.

“We thank her for all of her contributions and wish her all the best in her future endeavours,” reads a statement from the band.

“This month’s BABYMETAL World Tour 2018 in Japan will mark the rebirth in which Su-Metal and Moametal form the core of BABYMETAL.

“We would like to express our deepest gratitude to the fans for the continued support and look forward in what’s next for BABYMETAL.”

Earlier this year, the singer had to miss shows due to illness, and in a statement, Yuimetal said she is “still not in perfect condition”, while also suggesting she wanted to pursue a career under her real name, Yui Mizuno.

The news comes as BABYMETAL share new single Starlight, while the outfit prepare to release their graphic novel, Apocrypha: The Legend of BABYMETAL, later this month.

Back in January, BABYMETAL guitarist Mikio Fujioka passed away after falling from an observation deck.
