Beloved South Australian live music venue Fowlers Live will close its doors this year.

The Adelaide venue confirmed the news on Wednesday night and posted the official release online, which states that the decision was made due to Arts SA's desire to "repurpose the performance areas of The Fowler Building to a more multi use Arts Facility".

Public expressions of interest were sought earlier in the year and yesterday, Fowlers operator Peter Darwin, was advised that his application to secure a future tenancy was unsuccessful.

Fowlers will close in early December after 15 great years and has hosted the likes of The Preatures, DZ Deathrays, Unwritten Law and SAFIA.

"It is with great sadness that we have to share the news, that Fowlers Live will be closing its doors December 2018," a statement posted to Fowlers' Facebook page reads.

"We would like to thank all the staff, bands, promoters, punters and all who have been a part of the Fowlers Live journey during the 15 years of us operating."
