The City of Melbourne has just revealed the first round of programming for Melbourne Music Week and announced that the Australian Centre for the Moving Image will be the official centre of the event.

The space will play to host to a range of free and ticketed events in the week from November 16 – 24.

Speaking about the event's uniqueness, Councillor Rohan Leppert, Chair of the City of Melbourne’s Arts, Culture and Heritage portfolio said, “MMW has a history of transforming Melbourne landmarks into live music venues. The choice of ACMI as our 2018 Hub aligns with our mission to create a unique event that supports and celebrates Melbourne’s thriving music industry.”

But onto the line-up. The coveted opening night party will be in the capable hands of Australian LGBTIQ+ party professionals Heaps Gay with DJ sets from The Cocoa Butter Club, The Huxleys and Dandrogeny. Kira Puru and Maribelle will also perform live sets on the night.

The week will also feature an exclusive performance from Detroit's Jeff Mills, a celebration of disco care of Renée Geyer and sets from Rival Consoles, LEON VYNEHALL and an enigmatic Rice Is Nice label showcase.

There will also be an evening of soul and RnB, with Blue Black Beatz at Immigration Museum. The night by Afro Hub's Saba Alemayoh will be headlined by REMI.

Aussie rock band You Am I are also on board and set to play at the Melbourne Town Hall with support from post-punk cult rockers New War.

There's a whole lot to digest there and tickets are on sale now so head over to the website here for more information.

The next round of programming will be revealed on 2 October so keep an eye on theMusic.com.au.
