New South Wales police have charged a man with gaining unlawful entry to the ABC Sydney studios and assaulting triple j presenter Gen Fricker while she was on air.

As the ABC reports, it is thought that Wollongong man Kieren Gallagher gained entry to the Ultimo centre on 4 September by tailgating an employee through security.

He then made his way through the building to the live studio and allegedly grabbed and kissed Lunch presenter Fricker who was live on air.

Police have said they were able to identify Gallagher through CCTV footage and arrested the man early yesterday morning.

He has since been charged with stalking/intimidating with the intent to cause fear, trespassing and common assault.

Gallagher appeared briefly at the Central Local Court but the case has been adjourned while a mental health assessment is conducted.

The Music has contacted triple j for comment.
