While a large percentage of the Australian music industry nurses a BIGSOUND hangover, Brisbane singer-songwriter Emerson Snowe, aka The Creases’ Jarrod Mahon, has been named the fifth recipient of the $25,000 Levi's Music Prize.
The news follows on from Snowe’s showcases during the Brisbane music conference this week, with the indie artist reportedly blowing the panel of international selectors away at Woolly Mammoth on Tuesday night.
"I want to say a huge thank-you to everyone involved. This money and opportunity will go a long way and will honestly change my life. Thank you so much to Levi's for giving me this chance," Snowe said.
Snowe will also receive $5,000 in travel from Stage And Screen.
“Levi’s has a proud history of supporting the music and creative community and this year’s BIGSOUND was the perfect platform in which to step things up in presenting two mental health and well-being panels to raise awareness around this important health issue,” Levi’s Australia & New Zealand Marketing Manager Nicky Rowsell said.
“We look forward to continuing this important work to hopefully make a real difference and positive change within the music industry.
“We look forward to seeing [Snowe’s] career go from strength to strength over the next 12 months.”
On Snowe’s Woolly Mammoth showcase, The Music said: “With an angelic voice that is not quite what you would expect, punters are treated to a romantic set with jangly, guitar pop undertones.”
Three more Levi’s Music Prize winner winners will be announced each quarter leading up to BIGSOUND 2019.
Snowe joins previous winners Alex Lahey, Hatchie, Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever and Stella Donnelly.
