Jimmy Barnes is unstoppable.
After writing not one, but two acclaimed memoirs, the Aussie legend’s new documentary, Jimmy Barnes: Working Class Boy, has broken local box office records.
Opening in August around the country, the film claimed $500K at the box office across its opening weekend, making it the biggest opening for an Australian documentary.
Not only was it the biggest opening weekend for an Australian documentary – surpassing previous record holder Bra Boys (2007), which took in $90,000 – it was also the biggest opening for a documentary since Michael Jackson’s 2009 film This Is It.
“The positive and emotional response from fans and the general public to our film has been extremely gratifying,” director Mark Joffe said. "The support has been phenomenal.”
Jimmy Barnes: Working Class Boy has had its theatrical run extended, with the film expected to be released digitally and on DVD on November 14.
