Looking at Mardi Caught, it's easy to see the very picture of success and as we found out recently, she's far too humble to brag about it. As she has recently branched out launching her own business, The Annex, a "marketing services business working with talent, management and labels to deliver tailor-made marketing strategy". It's not strange then that she was tapped to give a keynote at BIGSOUND this year and she imparted her wisdom to an adoring crowd with a few epic Beatles anecdotes.

 On The Beatles

"Once upon a time there were a group of boys, John Paul George, Stuart and Pete.

 "They discovered recreational drugs...

"When we think of them now we talk about how big they were.... Very rarely do we talk about their failures.

"We may talk about how they fell apart at the end but we don’t talk about how hard those early formative years were.

"Failure and success should be considered as one of the greatest musical partnership since Lennon and McCartney."

On Her BIGSOUND Legacy

"'That’s what it was like back then.' If anyone remembers anything from this speech today I’d really like it to be that I’m the last woman that ever says that sentence in a Big Sound Keynote.

"Ideas can come from anywhere and anyone if you’re open enough to receive them.

"I may have just fucked up the same thing tens years ago..."

On The Happy Marriage Between Failure And Success

"As much as failure and success are bedfellows they are strange lovers.

"I may have a shit tonne of experience but if I view everything with 'Year One' then I can mould that knowledge to guide the people I work with on the best path forward.

"'Year One' is full of learning and fuckups.

On The Difference Between Mothering And Fathering And Just Being Human

"Mothering is literally cleaning up someone’s mess...Hugging them when they need support...Sometimes scolding them so they understand there are boundaries.

"Why do I choose to deem all those things a criticism yet I willingly applaud someone for being a great father figure.

"Simply a human who is trying to achieve at work while at the same time enjoy a balanced life...

"We have to support ourselves as individuals.

On Her Leadership Style

"Not only from the trenches but by example.

"It’s not a failure to admit you are human.

"Redefining what success looks like, we can continually evolve in our careers.

"The only person that can truly define that success is the individual.

"Don’t be anchored to it [the past], but we can still learn from it."

On Listening To Advice From Your Mum

"If you’ll regret it, don’t do it, if you do it, don’t regret it."

The Power Of History

"History is a wonderful editor."

On Getting Back On The Horse

"Recalibrate, learn and get back in amongst it.

"Nobody owes you a career, you are not entitled to it.

"Life is not an Instagram story... Those moments should last longer than a 5 second tap.

"Some fails can be gloriously epic."
