Organisation: World Artists United & Music Entrepreneur - Co-Founder & VP
How did you first become involved in the music business and how did you end up where you are today? I grew up in Motown playing music but I never thought it could be a longterm career. I built my career in community and business development and eventually realised I lost connection to my passion... Music. I ran into a music producer at a valet and jumped in head first.
What's been the biggest change in the music business you've seen over the past 12 months? Blockchain and a focus on entrepreneurship. People realised they don't need big labels, they just need a community of like-minded people who love music and want to see one another succeed! There are no excuses now, we just need to build that community together. Hence, Music Entrepreneur Conference!
What do you think will be the biggest issue affecting the music industry in the next 12 months and why? The old school mindset vs the new school. Where people could once be taken advantage of, they now have more transparency and information. It's disrupting the way leaders used to work and is now forcing change. Change isn't easy for everyone however, so some people are going to fight for control
What advice would you give young practitioners in your area starting out today? Read, find mentors, and commit to personal and professional growth. Find Mastermind groups and a community that will support your dream. Think about the five people you spend the most time with. Are they where you want to be?
What will you be primarily discussing during your appearance at the BIGSOUND conference and what are you hoping that people will be able to learn from your panel? I am discussing positive leadership in music. I want people to leave feeling empowered to take success in their own hands. I want them to learn how to share their vision with the world and build the right team around themselves. How to be a leader that people will follow.
What do you personally hope to take away from your time at BIGSOUND? I want to meet amazing leaders in music from around the world who want to be a part of a global alliance to inspire a more positive, connected community.
Which acts are on your must-see list at BIGSOUND and why? I'm not sure... But I'm excited to find out.
When and where is your panel? 5 Sep, IMA Mainroom, 2pm.
