Organisation: Citrine Management - Artist Manager

How did you first become involved in the music business and how did you end up where you are today? I got my feet wet in high school, eventually tour managing a band straight out of college. I spent a few years doing marketing and promotions at an indie label my friend began in the late 1990s. Eventually I found my way to management.

What's been the biggest change in the music business you've seen over the past 12 months? Streaming continues to gain momentum so learning how to integrate that into the overall plan for a release.

What do you think will be the biggest issue affecting the music industry in the next 12 months and why? I think it will be the same issues affecting the music industry now —  sustainability, growing your audience, finding creative ways to cut through the noise.

What advice would you give young practitioners in your area starting out today? Don't take no for an answer. Determination is key in getting ahead in this industry. Don't wait for an opportunity to present itself — try doing something yourself!

What will you be primarily discussing during your appearance at the BIGSOUND conference and what are you hoping that people will be able to learn from your panel? I hope people that come to the panel will see that every manager operates differently and there isn't only one way of doing things. That's what makes working in music so fun, every opportunity brings about new challenges but the way of approaching them is unique to the situation.

What do you personally hope to take away from your time at BIGSOUND? I look forward to meeting new colleagues and peers to collaborate with and enjoy lots of great music I haven't had the opportunity to discover yet.

Which acts are on your must-see list at BIGSOUND and why? Hachiku, imbi the girl, and KAIIT are some of the artists I'm dying to see. Excited to see performers I haven't before!

When and where is your panel? 5 Sep, The Judith Wright Centre, 11.30am.
