Organisation: Hidden Track Music - Associate Manager
How did you first become involved in the music business and how did you end up where you are today? I had always been interested in the intersection of film and music. Strapped for cash out of university, I took the first job I could get working in the film industry. From there I segued into the music industry, working as a music supervisor and then sync agent!
What's been the biggest change in the music business you've seen over the past 12 months? Mental Health. I work with a lot of seriously stressed people, many of whom are working in unsustainable ways.
What do you think will be the biggest issue affecting the music industry in the next 12 months and why? The rise of corporatism and humanity being subverted to serve the marketplace. Humanity is more important than money.
What advice would you give young practitioners in your area starting out today? Always be yourself.
What will you be primarily discussing during your appearance at the BIGSOUND conference and what are you hoping that people will be able to learn from your panel? I will primarily be discussing the importance of a sync agent and how the company I work for, Hidden Track Music, helps artists and songwriters marry their songs to films, television shows, advertisements and video games.
What do you personally hope to take away from your time at BIGSOUND? Looking forward to connecting with everyone at BIGSOUND from all different sects of the industry.
Which acts are on your must-see list at BIGSOUND and why? Hachiku excites me. Love Milk! Records. The description she has on her FB page owns: "Hachiku's unique home-made bedroom pop transcends you to an infinite abyss filled with imaginary friends, polar bears and zombie slayers."
When and where is your panel? 6 Sep, X-Cargo, 11.45pm.
