The future of beloved WA live music venue Fly By Night could be secured if a bid from a local church is successful.

The team behind one of Australia’s longest running arts music venues has been frantically searching for a new building to call home, with their current lease at Victoria Hall set to expire at the end of October.

Despite looking at numerous spaces around Kwinana, Fremantle and more, Fly By Night is yet to find a suitable replacement, for a number of reasons, including “lack of performance space, unsuitable location, unusable space, high rent, high establishment cost and uncertainty of tenure”.

The venue has now turned its focus to a potential buyer of the building, with the Anglican Church reportedly looking to take over Victoria Hall from the City of Fremantle.

“The church is eager to have the Fly remain as a resident hirer at Victoria Hall should its offer of purchase proceed and be successful,” Fly By Night board member Steve Wells said.

“The Fly will run its events largely at night while the church will run its various religious, pastoral and community development activities and hire out the space to other community groups during the day and when the Fly is not operating.”

Failing that, Wells says they might be forced to relocate outside of Fremantle and reassess how they operate.

Fly By Night has launched a GoFundMe campaign to assist with urgent financial issues.
