Bass player and co-founder of iconic Scottish pop band Bay City Rollers, Alan Longmuir has reportedly passed away aged 70.

As NME reports, the musician passed away at home following an illness he contracted in Mexico while touring a couple of weeks ago.

Longmuir’s close friend Liam Rudden confirmed the news via Twitter, stating, “He was one of the most gentle, generous & kind-hearted people I’ve ever known & touched the lives of all he met with a smile that made them feel special.”

Longmuir founded the band with his brother and drummer, Derek, in 1966 before departing 10 years later and then touring on and off again with them in the decades that followed.

Bay City Rollers were massive in the ‘70s and best known for hits such as Shang-A-Lang, Bye Bye Baby and more, with Les McKeown’s Bay City Rollers touring Australia this month.
