Muriel’s Wedding The Musical has dominated this year’s Helpmann Awards nominees, scoring a massive 11 nominations, while Tom Wait’s Black Rider: The Casting Of The Magic Bullets claimed seven.

The 18th annual celebration of Australia’s entertainment industry is set to go down at Sydney Town Hall on July 15 and Capitol Theatre on July 16, with Muriel’s Wedding (which features music from Kate Miller-Heidke & Keir Nuttal) vying for Best Musical and Best Original Score, the latter of which Ball Park Music’s Sam Cromack is also a contender for his work on Laser Beak Man.

After breaking a ticketing record earlier this year, Ed Sheeran and Frontier Touring lead the Best International Contemporary Concert nominees, alongside Adelaide Festival headliner Cécile Mclorin Salvant, Paul McCartney and Sydney Opera House’s Underworld.

Scoring Best Contemporary Music Festival in 2017, Hobart's annual MONA FOMA is nominated for the gong once again, joined by CMC Rocks, Laneway Festival and WOMADelaide, while Gang Of Youths, Gotye, Midnight Oil and Armand van Helden populate the Best Australian Contemporary Concert category.

Over on the comedy side of things, Anne Edmonds, Celia Pacquola, Lano & Frank Woodley, Julia Morris, Rhys Nicholson, Urzila Carlson and Zoe Coombs Marr will battle it out for Best Comedy Performer.

Various productions see Sydney Theatre Company claim 27 nominations overall, while David Campbell's efforts on Assassins and Priscilla Queen Of The Desert see him nominated twice in the Best Male Actor In A Musical category.

Celebrated Australian singer-songwriter Archie Roach is among the 2017 Centenary JC Williamson Award winners; an award that recognises those who have made outstanding contributions to the Australian live entertainment and performing arts industry.
