Nick Knox, the longest-tenured drummer of primal psychobilly band The Cramps, has died at the age of 60.
Former members of the band, including guitarist Kid Congo Powers and second drummer Miriam Linna have confirmed Knox's death on social media.
No cause of death has been provided.
Powers, who played with Knox on The Cramps' Psychedelic Jungle, tweeted, "Nick Knox Coolest of the cool. R.I.P. Glad to have played to your boss Beat. Meet you on the mystery plane".
With his jet-black hair and trademark sunglasses, Knox played in the band from 1977 to 1991 on the pioneering debut EP Gravest Hits and across four albums — Songs the Lord Taught Us, Psychedelic Jungle, A Date With Elvis and Stay Sick!. Prior to this, he was also the drummer for iconic proto-punk band the Electric Eels.
Taking to Facebook with a lengthy tribute, Linna said she felt "so regally let down by time and fate". Read her full statement below.
