Channel Ten has confirmed it has pulled Roseanne from the TEN and ELEVEN networks following racist comments made by the show's star, Roseanne Barr.

It comes after US network ABC announced it has canned the revived series after Barr posted an offensive tweet against former Obama advisor, Valerie Jarrett.

"Muslim brotherhood & planet of the apes had a baby," Barr's now-deleted tweet read.

As Ten Daily reports, a Ten spokesperson confirmed Roseanne has been removed from the network.

"Network Ten is appalled and disgusted with Ms Barr’s racist tweet and has removed Roseanne from TEN and ELEVEN, effective immediately," the spokesperson said.

Following news of the show's cancellation in the US, Barr issued an apology on Twitter, writing, "I apologize to Valerie Jarrett and to all Americans.

"I am truly sorry for making a bad joke about her politics and her looks. I should have known better. Forgive me-my joke was in bad taste."

ABC made the decision to axe Roseanne despite the comeback season premiering to 18.4 million viewers.

"Roseanne's Twitter statement is abhorrent, repugnant and inconsistent with our values," ABC Entertainment president Channing Dungey said.

"We have decided to cancel her show".

Cast and crew of Roseanne also distanced themselves from Barr's comments, including consulting producer Wanda Sykes, Sara Gilbert (who plays Darlene), Emma Kenney (Darlene's daughter) and Michael Fishman (DJ Connor)
