A legend among the Australian garage punk scene, Exploding White Mice bassist Andy MacQueen has passed away.

As I-94 Bar reports, the band’s guitarist, Jeff Stephens, confirmed news over the weekend.

It’s understood that MacQueen’s passing was unexpected and follows complaints of abdominal pains recently.

Renowned for their energetic live performances, Exploding White Mice burst onto the Adelaide scene in 1983, going onto to release four studio albums, acclaimed Greasy Pop Records EP A Nest of Vipers and more, which resulted in a string of singles, including Fear, Blaze Of Glory and Breakdown Number Two.

After disbanding in 1999, they reformed for a hometown reunion gig last year as part of Adelaide Film Festival and then performed at River Rocks Festival in Geelong.

MacQueen also played bass for punk band Pro-Tools.
