Proving to be a formidable force year after year, WA’s music body has unveiled its 2018 board members and annual report.

At WAM’s Annual General Meeting last week, members voted in the 2018 board, while the organisation unveiled an exciting 2017 annual report.

A number of revered industry figures were re-elected, including local radio personality Chris Edmondson and Oryx Consolidated’s Toby Browne-Cooper, while Tired Lion and Methyl Ethel manager Jacob Snell, Mark Spillane and Tourism WA’s Louise Scott stepped down.

There were fourteen nominees vying for the vacant spots, which went to local musician Aysha Amani, Sorrento Strategic Accounting’s Kylie Thompson, Sam Cutri and Steve Castan.

The rest of the 2018 board features president Al Taylor, Sonic Lolly’s Noah Shilkin as vice president, RedRock Music’s Bel Skinner as secretary, treasurer Steven McCabe, and WAAPA marketing manager and Death Disco’s Anton Mazandarani.

“I’m excited to be working with this new board to deliver great outcomes for WA music,” WAM CEO Mike Harris said.

“Thanks to outgoing members and all those that stood for nominations in a very highly competitive process.

“The next couple of years will be an exciting time for the local sector.”

The 2017 board did a fine job, as evident by WAM’s latest annual report, which highlights “what was a groundbreaking year” for WA music.

WAM undertook extensive research that assisted in the delivering of WA Government Contemporary Music Fund; funding they also lobbied hard for.

The annual WAMFest also expanded, with promises of bigger things still as they work on Australia’s first audience development plan.
