Channel Seven screened the premiere of new Olivia Newton-John biopic, Olivia Newton-John: Hopelessly Devoted To You on Sunday night and reviews from viewers have been nothing short of scathing.

Despite gaining an audience of 735,000 — the fifth highest rating slot of the evening — part one of the two-part miniseries was received poorly by viewers, specifically, the performance of lead actress Delta Goodrem for her portrayal of the Australian music legend.

update: TV Ratings For Olivia Newton-John Biopic Plummet Following Scathing Reviews

While Goodrem's singing in the show received praise, her acting chops turned many off the show.

One viewer posted on Twitter, "Olivia must be cringing. So bad. Young Olivia was great but Delta is awful," while another commented, "This is a true trainwreck…"

The ratings also paled in comparison to other music biopics screened on the Seven network. While Olivia Newton-John: Hopelessly Devoted To You garnered a solid viewership, it was still well behind 2014's INXS miniseries (premiered to 1.91 million), the two-part Peter Allen series (1.33 million viewers) and the Molly Meldrum series (1.3 million).

Part two of the series will air Sunday, 20 May at 8.30pm on Channel Seven.
