The ABC has dismissed rumours Wil Anderson had a "complete meltdown" while filming an episode of Gruen yesterday.

AdNews journalist Lindsay Bennett today tweeted that the renowned comic acted out during filming because "the audience wasn't laughing enough at his jokes".

However in a statement given to The Music today, the network rubbished the allegations.

"Wil Anderson interplays with the Gruen live audience to ensure there is high energy in the room and the audience feel engaged and entertained," an ABC spokesperson said.

"Such interactions with the audience, which are not for broadcast, are similar in tone to a live comedy performance.

"Last night’s audience took this interplay with the good humour with which it was intended and Wil thanked them for their enthusiasm at the end of the recording."

Episode two of the tenth season of Gruen airs tonight on ABC at 8.30pm.

Anderson last week appeared on The Music Podcast to discuss the new season of Gruen, his latest comedy show, Wilegal, and more. Check out the full episode below or on iTunes.
