Show creators Abbi Jacobson and Ilana Glazer have confirmed that the upcoming fifth season of their sitcom Broad City will be its last.
As detailed by The Hollywood Reporter, while the successful show's last season will air in the US in early 2019, the duo already have three new projects in development with Comedy Central.
"Broad City has been our baby and first love for almost 10 years, since we started as a web series. It’s been a phenomenal experience, and we’ve put ourselves into it completely," Glazer and Jacobson said in a joint statement.
"Broad City’s always had a spontaneous pace and feeling, and ending after season five honours that spirit. We are very excited to bring new voices and points of view to Comedy Central and continue our collaboration together in new ways."
The pair's new projects include an coming-of-age animation called Mall Town, USA, a live action comedy starring Glazer's brother and Broad City actor Eliot Glazer entitled Platinum Status and a political comedy called Young Professionals.
While Glazer and Jacobson won't act in any of the shows they will be executive produce all three. There's been no word on when or if they will premiere in Australia.
Until then lets all drown our sorrows by remembering the greatest gift/curse that this pearl of a show gave us.
