Heineken has pulled an ad after a wealth of criticism on social media, including comments from US artist Chance The Rapper who labelled it “terribly racist”.
In the commercial, a bartender slides a bottle of Heineken down the bar where it passes three black people before stopping at a lighter-skinned woman. The tagline “Sometimes lighter is better” is then displayed on the screen.
“I think some companies are purposely putting out noticably racist ads so they can get more views,” Chance The Rapper said via Twitter.
“The ‘sometimes lighter is better’ Hienekin commercial is terribly racist omg.”
As Nine News reports, a Heineken spokesperson said the ad “missed the mark” and that the company was “taking the feedback to heart and will use this to influence future campaigns”.
I think some companies are purposely putting out noticably racist ads so they can get more views. And that shit racist/bogus so I guess I shouldn’t help by posting about it. But I gotta just say tho. The “sometimes lighter is better” Hienekin commercial is terribly racist omg
