After smashing attendance records with last year’s ceremony, the National Indigenous Music Awards have begun their search to find the best new talent from across the country for the 2018 celebration.
AB Original and Troy Cassar-Daley were among those who won big at last year’s awards, and with Indigenous artists Baker Boy, Jessica Mauboy, The Lonely Boys and more kicking off 2018 in style, you can expect a massive celebration at Darwin’s iconic Amphitheatre on August 11.
“The NIMAs are not just about winning a trophy, they are about recognition and promotion of artists in their own communities and to the wider Australian community,” NIMAs Reference Group Chair Warren H. Williams said.

“Last year was arguably the biggest ever for Australian Indigenous music and this year already looks like surpassing it, so we want to make sure that Australia knows and recognises these amazing artists and the things they are achieving for Australian music.”
This year, 50% of votes will come from a panel of prominent Indigenous Australians and community leaders and 50% will come from a panel of Indigenous and non-Indigenous media and music industry representatives.
