The 2018 APRA Awards nominees have been revealed, with the best of Australia’s musical crop fighting it out to take home a statue.

Kicking it off the hotly contested member-voted Song Of The Year category will be Jessica Mauboy’s Fallin’, Paul Kelly’s Firewood And Candles, Ainslie Wills Running Second, Amy Shark’s Weekends and Gang Of YouthsWhat Can I Do If The Fire Goes Out?.

Breakthrough Songwriter Of The Year is shaping up to be a tough choice too, with Alex Lahey, Ben Abraham, Vera Blue, Gretta Ray and Sarah Aarons all up for the award.

Both M-Phazes and Thief picked up four nominations, while songwriters Ivy Adara and Louis Schoorl, the Peking Duk boys, Amy Shark, Styalz and Sam Littlemore are not far behind with three each.

“Being nominated for an award at the APRA’s is always a huge deal, a lot of the time the people behind the music don’t get the recognition they deserve,” M-Phazes said.

“APRA have always strived to recognise, nurture and help songwriters and producers in Australia and it’s an honour to be nominated this year.”

The awards are set to take place on Tuesday 10 April in Sydney hosted by Julia Zemiro.
