Do you want to be immortalised as a true legend of the Melbourne Comedy scene? If so, you’ve got just one working week left to throw your hat in the ring for this year’s MICF Funny Tonne competition.
With more than 620 different shows on offer, it can be quite the headscratcher to fathom out which of the Melbourne International Comedy Festival’s epic line-up to catch. But if this Sophie’s choice is just too hard, and you’re a proud glutton for guffaws, you might just be ready to take on the Funny Tonne challenge.
Each year, the festival invites a handful of die-hard comedy lovers to go head to head in a race to see who can attend and review the most shows. And the bar is set sky-high – in 2015, Funny Tonne-winner Sarah Trevarthen smashed the record by attending a gob-smacking 178 shows, or put another way, 60 shows a week!
To up the ante, this year the Festival is inviting double the number of Funny Tonners, increased from three to six entrants, to clock up as many audience hours as possible between the 28 Mar and 22 Apr. Armed with a much-coveted Comedy Passport, the six lucky/insane competitors will be able to access any and all shows, submitting short reviews for each show every day.
To enter, catch a Raw Comedy Award heat this week, and submit two 150 word reviews by Friday 9 Mar. Full details of how to apply to 2018's Funny Tonne Competition are available on the MICF website.
