Melbourne, start practicing your air guitar. The hit Andrew Lloyd Webber musical based on the Jack Black movie of the same title, School Of Rock, is headed Down Under.

After taking London’s West End and New York’s Broadway by storm, the hit show about dropout teacher Dewey Finn, who turns his posh prep school class into a rock band, will have its Australian premiere at Her Majesty’s Theatre this October.

But before the curtain rises on the blockbusting musical, the hunt is on for Australia’s “best guitar-shredding, fist-pumping kids,” to become the stars of this new Australian production. Auditions to find local talent to fill the all-important child cast will be taking place in the coming months.

Since its premiere in New York in 2015, the show has gone from strength to strength, with its 2016 West End production picking up the 2017 Olivier Award for Outstanding Achievement In Music.

School Of Rock is the latest large-scale musical theatre import to Australia, which has seen an increase in the number of major productions touring the country in recent years, including Les Miserables, Aladdin, Book Of Mormon, and Cats.

Tickets for School Of Rock go on sale 2 March.
