The future of Rolling Stone Australia has become clouded with the announcement that the local publishers of the iconic magazine have gone into liquidation.
As reported by Mumbrella, the company holding the Australian rights, Paper Riot, was placed into liquidation this past Wednesday (24 January).
Rolling Stone Australia editor, Matthew Coyte, founded Paper Riot in 2013 to take over publishing rights from Bauer Media.

“Paper Riot is in liquidation and will no longer be publishing Rolling Stone in Australia. The license has reverted back to the owner, Rolling Stone International,” Coyte said in a statement.
“I can’t tell you what their plans are moving forward or make any further comment.”
Manned by a small team of staff based in Sydney, the Australian iteration of the magazine was its longest standing international title being founded in 1972.
The publication’s US parent company has recently switched hands with founder Jann Wenner’s Wenner Media 51% majority ownership being sold to Penske Media.
